Junior Football Season 2020

'Creating a stronger community through Australian Football'

Season 2020 promises to be an exciting one for the Kenilworth Junior Club, with the Club fielding sides in the U7's, U8's, U9's U10's, U11, U18 boys and U12's in the girls.

Experienced coaches Ben Newman, Mitch Myers and Michael Mably will be leading the way with new enthusiastic coaches under the guidance of former Norwood player and Club Coach Rob Prime.

We also have an Auskick clinic at the ground, commencing in term 2 of the School Year for 5 and 6 year olds.

The facilities at our ground, Laura Avenue, St Marys, including the new social rooms are second to none and we are looking to further increase our playing numbers.  The focus at our Club is on community, families and creating an environment that emphasises fun and building character in our young members.

Our Club realises the importance of developing our youth and all coaches, support staff and members are committed to ensure the Kenilworth Junior Football Club creates an atmosphere that ensures all players and their families are welcomed and provide an opportunity to develop and enjoy our great game.

Meet the coaches

Ben Newman

Ben Newman

It is a privilege to coach junior children and create lasting memories and foster a team spirit which includes all involved in the group (parents/grandparents/siblings/other relatives/volunteers and friends).

As a coach it is my responsibility to come prepared to training and games in an effort to maintain and develop their interest in Australian Football.

In my short experience I have learned the importance of involving others (parents etc) regularly

during warmups and drills. By designing drills and routines, I am the giving the team members a chance to enjoy training and get something out of it (improvement).

Sportsmanship is of utmost importance to me. Shaking hands with umpires and opposition is my main team rule.

I enjoy serving the Kenilworth football club as it is a place I feel I can make a real difference. It is nice to go somewhere different from the usual places (school / work) and be involved and develop relationships with people you otherwise wouldn’t.

I began playing at Kenilworth  in 1999, playing A grade / B grade football and towards the latter years C grade.  I was a member of the 2005 A grade grand final team and Deputy Vice Captain of the 2010 B grade premiership team.

I have played a total of 250 senior games and I retired in 2018.   I am hoping to play in the Kenilworth Masters team in 2020.

Since retiring, I have been keen to give back to the club, helping to develop a strong junior program which will strengthen the club from the bottom up.

I have been coaching at Kenilworth since 2018 for the under 7's Mini's competition in 2018 and the under 8's in 2019.  I am excited to be coaching the under 9's in 2020!

I believe in providing the players with a safe and enjoyable environment, which develops not only their football skills, but also social skills.  I believe this will build a solid platform for them to move into regular senior football and taste the ultimate success - Premierships with their mates.

I have a Wife - Sarah, we have been married since 2009, and 2 children, a son - Blake who plays in the U9s and a daughter Ella who is 5.
